CRANE ISLAND COTTAGE

MINNETRISTA, MINNESOTA

Set on historic Crane Island in the middle of Lake Minnetonka—reachable only by boat—this family retreat captures the easygoing spirit of island life while honoring the modest scale of the original early-1900s cabins.

Organized in a simple “H” plan to stay in scale with its neighbors, the cottage feels both timeless and bright. Low rooflines, a screened porch overlooking the water, and natural materials create a relaxed rhythm suited to lake living. Inside, cozy bedrooms tucked beneath the gables and built-in sleeping spaces invite family gatherings, while thoughtful detailing connects each room to the surrounding views.
