CLASSIC MODERN COLOR

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA

The original home’s simple shape was expanded towards the backyard with a two-story cube. The kitchen is located below, and the primary bedroom is above. A small back entry vestibule with a covered stoop completes the addition. The original kitchen space was transformed into a mudroom, pantry, and a half bath. Upstairs, one of the small original bedrooms was converted into the primary bathroom. The kitchen and pantry feature fresh, original colors on the trim and cabinets, creating a fun and lighthearted atmosphere. The original stained birch windows, trim, and doors were kept and extended into the addition, blending with the new colors. The half bath and primary bedroom showcase colorful wallpapers, while the primary bath adds whimsy with patterned floor tile. The exterior siding on the addition uses a vertical board and batten, contrasting with the original stucco of the home in a modern and cost-saving solution.

A two-story lake home with glowing windows stands in a snowy yard at dusk. Bare trees surround the home, designed by a Minnesota architect, and a soft blue evening sky is visible overhead.
