LAKE POKEGAMA BOATHOUSE

ITASCA COUNTY, MINNESOTA

Situated at the edge of a lake in Northern Minnesota, this simple boathouse is composed of the elemental parts of a primitive shelter. Enclosing walls of board formed concrete  hold back the earth while a simple gabled roof provides shelter from sun and rain.  During the warmer months while the boats are launched, the space becomes a delightful seating area that opens up onto the beach with wonderful views of the water.

A cozy lakeside patio with white walls, a glass door, Adirondack chairs, and blue-patterned cushions opens to a deck overlooking a peaceful lake and trees—reflecting timeless interior design by a Minnesota architect.
A small white wooden lake home sits in tall grass near a lake, surrounded by lush green trees under a partly cloudy sky.

A small white cottage with custom cabinetry and millwork features large glass doors and sits among tall trees. The sky is clear and blue, and stone steps lead up a grassy hill behind the cottage.
OF NOTE
  • On the lake side, a large custom made overhead folding glass door allows the space to open to the lake providing uninterrupted views.
  • An ipe deck serves as a landing area for the steps that lead to the shoreline, and as a platform for outdoor furniture.
  • On the interior, storage cabinets in the back are held down from the sloped ceiling to provide an additional loft space, bringing light in from the north gable end window.
