Portfolio | Highland Park Colonial
Remodeling, Saint Paul, Minnesota. A homeowner's passion for detail & function, along with three growing teenage boys, inspired this phased addition to a mid-century colonial style house in St. Paul's Higland Park neighborhood, which resulted in a long term relationship between owner and architect that has spanned six years.
The challenge was to add a substantial area to the main floor without completely engulfing the second floor of the original house. The solution was to treat their new family room as a large windowed porch with a flat roof. A main living room was added across the back of the house, flanked by a master bedroom suite on one end and a mudroom, powder room and laundry at the other.
- Detailed built-in cabinetry and millwork allowed for maximum utilization of space in all rooms.
- Custom platform bed including underbed drawers and recessed headboard cabinets to invisibly accomodate health care equipment.
- Detailed colonial style exterior ceiling with roof dormers allows light with privacy below.
